Sign Language Information
Sign Language

My book Mask of the Jackal has a deaf character called Jordy.

These websites have some examples of sign language. It's fun to try:

Auslan Sign Bank (Australian)
Sign language is used to communicate with deaf or hard of hearing people. This website shows how to fingerspell, sign number or words. It's like a dictionary, but you can watch a video of someone actually signing.

Have a go at fingerspelling your name and try it out with your friends. This site shows the two-handed alphabet, used in Australia, UK and other countries - and also the one-handed alphabet, used in USA.

Deafblind website (United Kingdom)
Drawings of the two-handed alphabet, and tips on how to communicate with deaf people. It also gives some history of how sign language came to be.

DLTK'S
Printable colouring sheets, also showing American or British sign language.

Deaf Characters in Adolescent Literature
Sharon Pajka-West has made a list of books for young readers that feature deaf characters
